Thursday, September 29th, 2011
Technology helps with the smooth functioning of life but proves to be a menace when misused. To curb the misuse ACAS has come up with a set of guidelines that will come in handy for the employers as well as their staff.
It covers the usage of Internet and social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, which have become very popular among many. Many organizations use such sites to help in their marketing as well, but the workers are misusing the same and often log onto to their personal web pages.
Most of the firms complain about their staff using such public forums to vent out their anger and pass derogatory comments about their management and colleagues, which can cause harm to their reputation. Hence, the employers find it important to come up with measures that will curb such actions and help in reducing the misuse.
Employees on the other hand, claim that their confused about where to draw the line when it comes to using such sites at work.
ACAS therefore has listed out a few guidelines including one, which suggests the employers to come up with a policy that will list out the dos and don’ts of using technology at work and the consequences of not following the same. For better implementation, this policy can be included in the contracts of employees.
Since such issues have not yet been taken up in the court of law, ACAS suggests that the organizations can conduct constant reviews to ensure the policy’s effectiveness.
The Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) provides a firm foundation in all the areas of personnel; the course will help those in human resources management, training and development to understand how to implement best practice in recruitment and selection and identify, plan and evaluate training intervention.
