Slowplay for Good Reason
Friday, July 30th, 2010Slowplay for Good Reason By B. Butler When one makes the decision to slowplay a large hand, it should not be by automatic consideration, but with the clear intent of maximizing the pot. If your poker online opponent is the type that would be prone to fire if you give him room, slowplaying is often correct, though if he is the kind to assume weakness in betting and perhaps reraise, you might want to bet straight out and let him do his own action. If your poker opponent is the type who is more cautious, firing only when he has a piece and otherwise being willing to check it down, you might be more prone to check and let him try to pick up a piece that he can then call down with, or to let him bet himself and either smooth call or reraise. Sometimes betting here is still a good idea if the board is coordinated to drawing, as in taking a free card off he might back into a hand that surprises both him and you, and lets him take your money. When in doubt, regardless of what you know about your opponent at Everest, when in doubt the better idea is to fire and see what happens. Floating a bet often ends up being chips lost rather than sneaky plays successfully put on.
