Changing Bad Habits to Good Ones

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Bad habits are simply patterns we’ve gotten used to. We’re
comfortable with them, even though their consequences make us
uncomfortable. It’s the old “devil you know” story. Exchanging
bad habits for good ones is not as hard as you might think.
There are only 4 steps to new habits: Step One toward creating
strategies to start the new year without old bad habits holding
you back is to first identify which habits are the most
bothersome or distressing to you – that’s where you’ll start,
and you’ll work on only 1 or 2 habits at a time, otherwise it
will be overwhelming and you’ll give up. Choose something that
will really count for you, not something someone else is trying
to “guilt” you into doing. Step Two involves identifying what
triggers this bad habit (pattern); what are the kinds of
situations you find yourself in that are more likely than not to
set the bad habit into play? What are the thoughts that go
through your head before you engage in the bad habit? You need
this information so that you can be prepared for the next step.
In Step Three you’ll create a new pattern to replace the old,
bad habit. For example, if smoking (or eating or drinking too
much) is a response to stress, and it makes you feel like a
victim, identify what helps you feel victorious and
accomplished. When have you had success with overcoming
something and how might you apply that to the current situation?
What behavior could you replace the bad habit with such as step
outside for a breath of fresh air, call a friend and chat for 2
minutes, take a brief walk, pet a dog or cat, take 10 deep
breaths, or watch the Comedy Channel for a few minutes? Step 4
helps this new habit become sustained, making it easier to
follow through than to fall back into your old ways. Enroll
others in your success. Tell them what you’re doing and ask for
their assistance in whatever way makes sense. By involving other
people you’re acknowledging and accepting that you’re really
committed to making it work. Tie rewards and consequences: give
yourself a reward for making some progress, or pre-assign a
consequence (one you don’t want to have to pay) for not
following through. Be flexible about how things go, and maintain
an attitude of play or experimentation. The first thing you try
might not work, but that doesn’t mean something else
won’t…don’t give up.

That Crazy Anti-Online Gambling United States, at it Again

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Once again, the anti-gambling, anti online poker crowd in the United States has run amok.

According to casinocitytimes.com, a Kentucky Judge named Thomas Wingate will be holding a forfeiture hearing regarding domain names to 141 online gambling sites.

Last week, the state of Kentucky was granted an order to seize these domains as part of lawsuit trying force online gambling and online casino operators to stop offering services to Kentucky residents.

“Unlicensed, unregulated, illegal Internet gambling poses a tremendous threat to the citizens of the Commonwealth because of its ease, availability and anonymity,” said Governor Steve Beshear in a statement. “The owners and operators of these illegal sites prey on Kentucky citizens, including our youth, and deprive the Commonwealth of millions of dollars in revenue. It’s an underworld wrought with scams and schemes.”

“By seizing the domain names, Kentucky can require that the illegal casino operators use readily available technology to block their domains from being accessed in the Commonwealth,” the statement said.

The targeted domains are held by a mix of domestic and international registrars, casinocitytimes.com reported.

Doesn’t the governor of Kentucky, this judge, and all the anti-gambling legislators realize the residents of Kentucky, and the U.S., like online pokersites? We don’t need to be protected from ourselves. I don’t know how many times I can say this, but if we want to spend our money on online poker, we should be able to. It really isn’t that hard of a concept to understand.

Let your mistakes burn…

Let your mistakes burn…

Terry Dashner…….Faith Fellowship Church PO Box 1586 Broken Arrow, OK 74013

Thomas A. Edison’s son, Charles, describes the night in which his father’s entire laboratory at Menlo Park burned. The famous inventor was then sixty-seven, and the winter wind blew his sparse white hair as he stood watching years of work go up in flames.

“My heart ached for him.” Charles said. “He was no longer a young man. But then he spotted me and shouted, ‘Charles, go find your mother. Bring her here. She’ll never see anything like this as long as she lives!’”

And the next morning Thomas A. Edison observed, “There is great value in disaster. All our mistakes are burned up. Thank God we can start anew.”

Admittedly, I’m not the optimist that Mr. Edison was; however, I believe there is wisdom in letting mistakes die. Learn from them, yes; but, let go of them and move on. I believe there are several things to glean from letting go of your past mistakes.

For one, to err is human. It’s okay to make mistakes. Learning from them, instead of condemning yourself, makes you better at what you do and a better person. The first public rendition of George Frederick Handel’s The Messiah was in Dublin, Ireland, on April 13, 1742. When Lord Kinnoul complimented the entertainment he had given the town, Handel said, “I should be sorry if I only entertained. I wish to make them better.” What God has given you to do in life will not only make others better, but you will be made a better person for having done it, even at the risk of making mistakes.

Secondly, making mistakes means that you are tryingyou are doing something. When I was in field training as a police officer many years ago, I was given a great piece of wisdom by a training officer. He said, “Don’t worry about complaints. If you do your job, you’ll draw complaints. If someone complains about you, it means that you are out there doing your job. The citizens of Tulsa deserve that.”

Through the years that has stayed with me. Yes, I could do nothing in life for fear that I might make too many mistakes. But, what good is that? I don’t want to live my life from an arm chair. I want to do something to change the world for good. Therefore, offenses will come. And so will mistakes.

What about you? Are you moving forward in life, even while making mistakes? Or, are you stagnate because you’re fearful of making mistakes and what people might say against you? May I encourage you to let your past mistakes die? May I encourage you to keep moving forward in the Lord? By His power He can take you beyond your mis-takes.

Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus is coming soon………..Pastor T.

Creating Your “Ideal Typical Day”

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

There’s an old riddle that goes like this:

How do you eat an elephant?

Answer: One bite at a time.

That can also be true for redesigning a life. Much of our lives are made up of the routines we have developed that become the framework for a typical day in our life. Granted, many people have a fair amount of variety in a lot of their days, still most of us can learn a lot about our lives by looking at the patterns we have adopted over time.

That is the purpose of the following 2 part exercise. First, to get a clearer picture of what your “Current Typical Day” looks like and then to explore what your “Ideal Typical Day” could be.

Between these two pictures, between the current picture and the picture of your ideal day, there is likely to be a gap. Sometimes the gap is large, sometimes not so large. In either case, once you have a clear view of both of these type days, you can begin the process of closing the gap by taking conscious steps towards bringing your Ideal Typical Day into reality.

For example, when I first committed to living a life of service, simplicity, and spiritual serenity, I was working many more hours than I wanted to be. Those hours were consistent with my Inherited Purpose of needing to work really, really hard so I could get ahead, so I wouldn’t be poor and so people wouldn’t leave me. But, when I started to look at what I ideally wanted my day to look like, I began the process of redesigning my days to include less work hours and more time for my family and for fun outside of work.

Today, I love my ‘typical days’ as well as those that are a little less than typical. But this is not about my days, it is about yours, so let’s get started.

Part 1: Getting a Clear Picture of your Current Typical Day

Take yourself step by step, segment by segment, through what is a typical day for you. Start with when you normally wake up and how (alarm, child shaking you, or naturally awakening on your own), and also what is your mood upon awakening. Then proceed to what happens next as well as how you feel as you progress through the day.

Be honest with yourself. This is about telling yourself the truth. If there are parts of the day that might vary, then make note of the variety. For example, Tuesday through Thursday much of my typical day is spent on the phone with coaching clients while Monday and Friday is when I am in my office. I am mostly working on my business rather than delivering my services.

Take yourself all the way through your typical day until you finally put your head once more on your pillow. What time do you typically go to bed? How do you feel at that point? How long does it take for you to fall asleep? Do you first fall asleep somewhere else like on the sofa in front of the TV, and then have to get up and go to bed? Make note of anything you feel is relevant, including if you tend to awaken during the night. If you do, how do you feel, and how long does it take you to fall back asleep?

Part 2: Painting a Picture of Your Ideal Typical Day

This may be the more challenging part of the exercise, but it can also be the most fun, invigorating and at least as insight filled as the first half.

Begin to paint a picture of what your ideal or perfect typical day would be. Keep it in balance between allowing yourself to dream and stretch a bit while also anchoring it some in reality.

For this part of the exercise, it may prove useful to set yourself a timeframe as to by when your Ideal Typical Day could realistically become your real typical day. This might be 6 months out, 1 year, or more. Again, be sure to paint a vivid picture including what you will be doing and what you will be experiencing. Have fun with this.

What to Do with the Results

After completing both parts of the exercise, take a day or two to note any insights you can glean from the process, and write those insights down.

Make notes of any of the insights you would be particularly interested in taking action on and if you know what those actions might be, write those down as well.

If you are working with a coach, I encourage you to send the information you have gleaned from this process to your coach. Not working with a coach? Why NOT?

What Happens if You Don’t Pay? Part One

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Creditors can’t throw you in jail just because you can’t pay some of your bills. Depending on the circumstances, though, they can turn over your account to collections, sue you, garnishee your wages, repossess collateral, or foreclose on your home.

If you are behind on any of your bills, the rights and remedies that the collector uses to get you to bring your bill up-to-date depends on several factors:

1. Who is collecting the debt. A credit card company or another lender collecting its own debts can be really toughworse, in some cases, than debt collectors. That’s because in most states they have more leeway than professional debt collectors. Debt collectors are covered by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a federal law that regulates how they operate. That law doesn’t cover creditors collecting their own debts.

Most creditors want to get you to pay and keep you as a good customer, at least at the beginning. (After all, people who carry balances are their favorite customers!) So you may be able to negotiate a reasonable compromise with a creditor until you can get back on your feet.
Collection agencies, on the other hand, have one and only one goalto get you to pay.

2. Whether the debt is secured or unsecured. Secured debts are debts that are backed up by collateralproperty that the creditor can take if you fail to pay the bill. If a debt is secured, you will probably know it because when you took out the loan, you will have signed a “security agreement” giving the creditor a “security interest” in your property. Your collateral on a secured debt may be repossessed, or taken back, if you don’t make your payments.

Many loans are unsecured; there is no collateral backing up the loan. Credit cards, medical bills, personal lines of credit, and student loans are examples of unsecured debts. The fact that these types of loans are unsecured doesn’t mean that the creditor can’t go after your property to collect. It just makes it more difficult, since they generally have to go to court first.

What? Are you afraid of ghosts?

Monday, October 27th, 2008

I guess you could relate well on that didn’t you? Honestly, I don’t. I have no fear of ghosts. Okay, I admit it, when I was little.

No, this article is not about ghosts or the fear of ghosts but the fear of — failure. Let me share to you my struggle in finding (Nemo?) no!

Okay, seriously now. (Actually I haven’t seen the movie.)

It was not an easy experience for me to find a woman to marry.

Not too long ago, I was a thriving employee who thinks more highly that he ought to toward himself. At that time, I was earning twice than most that I considered myself rather successful. But, but… I have a big problem. I’m loosing hair and I’m loosing it fast!

I have my eyes set on the newspaper and TV commercials waiting for breakthroughs on the cure of hair loss. I’m growing desperate everyday that I bought every kind of shampoo that claim to make a difference. The truth is, man, I would be categorically bald in couple of years. I wanted to cry. I hug my dog and I poured out my tragedy over him. That’s what dogs are for.

But I’m the kind of guy that doesn’t easily give up. Definitely, if I can’t have my hair, then I must have my wife!

I left my promising job and went back to the province. I courted the first fair young lady I met and got her after two weeks of courtship. Ha ha! Then lost her after two weeks (sob). She left me for a full-haired man.

I have learned the truth that a loyal dog is better than a fair young lady who leaves you at the drop of a hat.

Then one day, I met my wife.

We got two kids now. My younger boy had his first birthday last 23rd of October.

Here’s what I learned:

Firstly, when stumbling at failure, stand up and wipe your eyes dry. You have to stay alert for the next opportunity that comes your way.

Secondly, failure can be bitter but don’t let your fear of failure hinder you from trying again. Failure, in reality, is a stepping stone either towards or away from your goal. Decide what it is to you.

Thirdly, victory is certain if you try harder and smarter.

Lastly, dogs can be a good thing!

Face it, you can’t have it all. Stop blaming yourself or somebody else — that will not make any difference. Study what caused you to fail and learn from it.

In closing, let me remind you that God is on your side and that something better in on the way!

Proverbs 19:14 “Parents can provide their sons with an inheritance of houses and wealth, but only the Lord can give an understanding wife.” (NLT)

Super bargain 15000 dollar at a estimable loan rate of 13.8 percent

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Many of the moneylenders wil show you a rate that is looking reasonable but doesn’t feel advantageously or so after a period of time. Now you can check up on rates quickly online and come across if there are other conditions you should be aware of.

Analyze to see if the moneylender who is tending to give you a money loan is beneficial. It doesn’t matter if you live in Hillsboro Oregon or in Janesville Wisconsin a solid online check up will save you often a lot of problems. You should be brilliant today to examine if you have a great deal or if you don’t with the bank that offers you a bank loan. A merchant bank in Clovis California or so can have a total different actual rate of interest for a 12500 dollar deferred payment then a bank in Arlington Texas and that makes a immense clear gap in your monthly pay offs. That’s the reason why now you really need to check and realize if you can have a credit loan at a dependable percent interest rate. 5.7 percent rate of interest may come out so upright but will it stay immutable after you’re going to requite your money loan.

5 Ways To Feel Super-Optimistic: Tips for Your Health, Wealth, & Career Success

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Optimism is the hidden key to your personal and business success. Optimists possess a clear vision of an exciting life, confidently work on goals to achieve their vision, and take seflf-responsibility. In contrast, pessimists have no clear vision of a fantastic life, and they love to complain, blame, and moan.

How can you become more optimistic?

I will divulge five little-known “secrets” to help you immediately feel upbeat, confident, and optimistic.

Research: Why Optimism Is Good for You

Tons of research prove that optimists do vastly better than pessimists in their

1. Health

2. Wealth

3. Career success

Health.

A growing body of “psychoneuroimmunology” medical research links how a person’s emotions affect his or her health. Some intriguing findings: Optimistic people are less likely to get sick than pessimistic or depressed people. This includes illnesses ranging from common colds to cancer. Optimistic people also get well faster than pessimists.

Wealth.

A fascinating study found that self-made millionaires worry much less than people who earn as much money but have not achieved millionaire status. What is the connection between being optimistic and making yourself into a millionaire? Optimists are much more likely than pessimists to make a goal of achieving millionaire status. They also keep plugging away at being frugal, investing wisely and working hard to turn financial dreams into reality. In contrast, pessimists are less likely to set net-worth goals or consistently take actions to become millionaires.

Career Success.

Many companies use my firm’s Abilities & Behavior Forecaster pre-employment tests when choosing applicants. To start, a company has high-achievers take the test. Also, underachievers may take the test. Then, we identify how the high-achievers score, so the company can prefer hiring applicants who score like its profitable, productive employees. Intriguing finding: One of the Forecaster test’s 18 scales is Optimism. Typically, high-achievers typically score high on the Optimism test scale, while underachievers score moderate or low on Optimism. This repeated finding verifies that optimists achieve greater career success than pessimists.

So, how can you boost your optimism to achieve greater health, wealth, and career success? Here are five immediately useful techniques. Each takes only one minute to do, so you can start fast and get results today.

1st Technique: Straight Posture & Big Steps

Optimistic people use straight posture, walk fast, and take big steps. Pessimistic people slouch, walk slowly, and use small steps. Imagine seeing someone walking with his or her head held high, shoulders back, walking fairly fast with big steps. That person exudes confidence. In contrast, a person whose head and shoulders slouch and walks with slow, small steps reeks a gloomy mood.

Why is a straight posture crucial? Because before you can straighten out your head, you first need to straighten up your body!

2nd Technique: Cheerful Voice

A lightning quick way to feel upbeat is to use a cheerful voice. Think of a time when you felt annoyed. Then, your phone rang. You answered it, and your caller was someone you wanted to impress. I bet you spoke in a cheerful voice so you would impress your caller. Result: You immediately started feeling your mood lift.

Why is a cheerful voice an incredibly powerful optimism tool? Psychological research proved that a person emotionally feels the emotion he or she is acting at the moment. So, if you act cheerful, you feel cheerful. And a cheerful voice is the fastest way to act optimistic.

3rd Technique: Use Upbeat Words

You can use types of words: upsetting and upbeat. Pessimists relish using upsetting words, while optimists excel at using upbeat words.

Examples:
Upsetting Words: Problem, Tired & Depressed

Upbeat Words: Opportunity, Recharging, Bumming

For example, a pessimist says, “I have a problem.” In contrast, an optimist would say, “I have an opportunity to do better next time!”

4th Technique: Use Upbeat Attitudes

I find the chief way to become an optimist simply is to focus on solutions – and not focus on problems. Every time a difficulty pops up, immediately create solutions and put them into action. Examples:

Upsetting Attitudes: Focus on problems, Dwelling on weaknesses, and Thinking about financial woes.

Upbeat Attitudes: Focus on solutions, Dwelling on strengths and
Thinking about achieving prosperity

Why is a solution-focus ultra-important? Because you can only have one thought in your head at a time. So, if you focus on solutions, you cannot wallow in problems, complaining, blaming, or moaning.

5th Technique: Be a Magnificent Role Model

Remember a time you were a role model for someone. As you helped that person, you also helped yourself. As the proverb goes: “What goes around, comes around.” If you are a delightfully optimistic role model for employees, co-workers, family and friends, then you simultaneously make yourself optimistic.

How do you do this? Make sure people see you using straight posture, taking big steps, speaking in a cheerful voice, using upbeat words and focusing on solutions.

Anyone can become an optimist. When people use these five techniques, they invariably tell me they feel heavy burdens lift off their shoulders. They feel positive, upbeat, and confident. You only need a few minutes to put these tips into action. They can be your key to enhanced health, wealth, and career success.
