Website Visitors — How to Help Them Find You

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

We think that once our well developed and designed website is launched, magically a large number of people will visit immediately. With the millions of websites launched weekly and monthly, we have to do some extra work to make sure that those people we want to visit our website can find us.

TIP #1. Include the features and factors that help a site gain higher listings in the search engines.

  • Include a descriptive title in the title bar of every page. When you visit a website, look at the top blue bar, and you should see a title for the page. Besides letting visitors know where they are, this helps with search engines.
  • Include keywords in your content, your titles and your meta tags. There was a time when keywords in the meta tags helped with search engine placement. Now, they very seldom do, but I still suggest adding them. They are, however, important in your content. Decide what words a visitor would use to find what you offer and include them throughout your site.
  • Include a short (about 25 word) description of the site and its purpose in the meta tags. Search engines do check the description and often use it when adding a description to the link that they list for your website. Make it short, punchy and to the point.
  • Make sure that your content is excellent, ever-changing and includes links to other sites. Finally, the search engines are aware of the many tricks that were initially used to get good placement, so they no longer work. Excellent and updated content wins today — and brings visitors back!

TIP #2. Avoid the pitfalls that will guarantee poor and/or no search engine placement.

  • Avoid using frames. Frames can make the navigation of a website easy and quick, but they almost guarantee that your website will never appear in a search engine. Technically, search engines will only see the navigation frame and no content or any important keywords.
  • Avoid the use of databases for information you want the search engine spiders to find. Databases are a great tool for organizing data that networks need to access — for example, employee lists or manufactured items — but are not searchable by the spiders. They cannot get into your database.
  • Avoid the under-handed tricks like cloaking and overloading a page with hidden keywords. Yes, some search engines can still be fooled, but they are all getting smarter, and if you are caught, you will be black-listed and no-one wants to face that.

TIP #3. Besides designing and developing with search engine placement in mind, use every other possible opportunity to plug your website.

  • Every piece of printed material that you give out or send should have your website listed. This should be obvious, but I still meet business people who fail to have the address of their website on their business card, their letterhead, their envelopes, their brochure and/or their printed newsletter.
  • Include the address of your website in your e-mail signatures. Use it for all e-mail messages — new and replies — including those posted on forums, lists, newsgroups and other groups.
  • Print your website address on T-shirts and your bumper stickers. That is, if you tend toward the fun and outrageous! You will get attention.

I have just scraped the surface of how to encourage traffic to your website. I strongly recommend the book 101 Ways to Promote Your Website by Susan Sweeney.

Aphrodites Island

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Cyprus has been home to many cultures over the ages, but to most of us simply know it as a great hotspot, which has made it a very popular destination with tourists, with over 2.4 million visiting the republic. The island receives over 330 days of sunshine a year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. There is no shortage of travel companies tailoring Cyprus holidays and low cost airlines including Monarch offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, it has never been easier to get there.

While attracting visitors from around the world, most of them tend to be Europeans. In recent years Russians and Poles have become poolside regulars alongside the French, Germans and, of course, us Brits.. One of the main reasons why there is such a heavy presence of Brits in Cyprus is because of the positioning of the British Armed forces in the southern Greek part of the island. With quick and easy access to the Middle East, this is likely to be the case for some time to come. The impact of this on the surrounding area is that Cypriots have grown used to, and in turn, now cater for the Brits. English is widely spoke and understood among nearly all age groups to driving on the left side of the road. No doubt the similarity to the UK makes us Brits feel more at home, but in a more favourable climate.

Much of olden Cyprus is giving away to culture that is more eclectic and less traditional. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. Fortunately as you venture off the beaten track, your are soon reminded of the character that has made this island a popular destination for millennia.

Its worth tearing yourself away from the beach and visiting the Troodod Mountains if you can. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. Kykkos even has its own winery where the monks bottle and sell their wine. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

About Fairchild Chairman Jeffrey Steiner

About Jeffery Steiner – Fairchild Corporation

Jeffery Steiner, the Chairman of the Fairchild Corporation, is a successful businessman who until recently has been an invisible hand in major international business deals. Jeffery Steiner lived through World War II as a Jewish exile in Istanbul, the Steiner family having escaped the Holocaust prior to Nazi invasion of Vienna. In his adult life, Jeffery Steiner has held a number of executive positions throughout his career, including being an executive of Texas Instruments and the Chairman of Banner industries. Jeffery Steiner’s fortune grew when he bought enough stock in Banner Aerospace to become its Chairman. From there, Jeffrey Steiner leveraged Banner in a number of business deals that eventually landed him control of the Fairchild Corporation.

According to Answers.com, “Banner acted as white knight to Fairchild Industries in 1989 when it rescued the company from the Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C., merchant bank. The $265 million cash transaction increased Banner’s consolidated annual revenues by more than 100 percent to almost $1 billion. The merged companies underwent a complicated reshuffling in the ensuing months. Banner Industries and Fairchild were united under the name the Fairchild Corporation in 1990. Throughout all the mergers, the Banner name was not retired: Steiner reorganized Banner Industries’ Aerospace Distribution Group as Banner Aerospace, Inc. in 1990.”

The Fairchild Corporation consists of two separate divisions: Fairchild Sports, which designs and distributes motorcycle apparel through affiliate retail chains throughout Europe and the United States, and Banner Aerospace, which manufactures parts for aircraft construction. Fairchild Corporation also owns a shopping center in New York. Jeffery Steiner has been Chairman of the Fairchild Corporation since 1985.

IT: International Trade Negotiation Artificial Intelligent Computer

Friday, August 29th, 2008

As artificial intelligent computer programmers work hard to create systems, which can think, adapt and react to any situation; we are finding that the number of applications and potential uses for such systems spans the entire gamut of the human endeavor.

As robotics replace the human worker in manufacturing facilities artificial intelligence systems will replace the executives. If your shareholder of a large multinational conglomerate Corp. you will be happy to know that this will save lots of money. The money saved will increase shareholder’s value, quarterly profits and increase cash flow.

The United States military is looking into command and control systems, which run fully autonomous. Such weapons systems like unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned striker Brigades will be the future of warfare in the modern battle space.

Such artificial intelligent computer systems will be designed to do just about everything with complex decision matrix systems, which can learn, think and even program themselves to do any task, complete any mission or negotiate any situation. Such artificial intelligent computer could even one day be used in complex international trade negotiations. Instead of saying all the golf course our attorneys will talk to your attorneys; the human leadership will say; let’s let the artificial intelligent computer’s come up with a fair negotiation; “By your drink?” And folks that is the future of international trade negotiation in the future. We will have free trade and fair trade for all concerned without tension or stress or potential eventuality of breakdowns in talks leading to political impasse or war. Consider all this in 2006.

4 Gambling Mistakes New Poker Players Make

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Poker is a game of chance, but there is still a large amount of skill involved when playing. Many new poker players make gambling mistakes that cost them a lot of money and get them out of tournaments. Some novices play free poker online and never win because of terrible gambling techniques. However, by knowing four common gambling mistakes that are made by new players, you can greatly increase your chances of winning games and tournaments.

1. Going all-in too often or in obvious desperation. In many tournaments with play money, some players go all-in the first hand. It may work for a few times, but after a while, someone will call you. In that case, you better hope that you have actually good cards. All-in can be used to get players to fold, but it should really only be used if you have a solid hand and could possibly double your stack. People should bluff very infrequently with an all-in. Going all-in with a bad hand is what many people call “bad poker.” Sometimes you can get lucky, but the best players bet carefully.

2. Under betting. If you have a good starting hand, don’t be afraid to raise pre-flop, or bet high after the flop. If you have a great hand, then slow playing can work very well. However, when you do start placing bets in a no-limit game, they should not be too small. One reason is that you won’t end up winning as much money if you bet small. Another reason is that you are giving incentives for many other players to stay in the hand. Therefore, you are giving other players chances to hit a hand that is better than yours. The best players bet just the right amount to get it where only one or two players call. In that case, your odds for winning are a lot better.

3. Over betting. Some players get very excited when they have a good hand. They may go all-in, or lay down outrageous bets. Not only is it a waste of a good hand, but also people can start to read you. If you constantly over bet only when you have something, then people will always fold and you won’t win money. However, if you don’t have anything, then people will also know because you aren’t laying down monstrous bets.

4. Finally, it is important to know when to fold. The best poker players are constantly watching other players, and guessing who could have better hands than they have. If someone bets high, and you know you have the best possible hand (which occurs rarely), then you can call. However, you need to know the odds of the other person having a better hand. Additionally, many new poker players call large bets when they don’t have anything, they just need a draw card. This is the worst type of gamble. Seldom will a person get that final card they need for a straight or a three-of-a-kind. Knowing the odds is key to playing good poker.

New poker players are often very easy targets for experienced players. Many new poker players make gambling mistakes that can be capitalized on. In order to avoid those mistakes, it is important to study the odds in poker, analyze what other players could have, and bet intelligently. If you do that, then you will have a fairly successful poker playing experience.

Will Smaller Retailers Be Forced out of the Gaming Notebook Sector Too

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Do you recall when laptops for gaming were a special product? In the past the insignificant number of sales countered by the profit margins. Despite that everyone probably wanted one. I think you could say they were the best laptops about, at least speed wise. They probably were not good sellers though because I reckon most of us buy laptops that we can easily afford. Lately it seems bigger manufacturers are all coming into the market really rapidly and things are shifting.

Just envisage how much revenue these companies would be making particularly when utilizing mass production. Nowadays the usual laptop margins are so small so it presents the opportunity for them to regain the gross margins. They can also use their massive marketing resources to persuade buyers further into parting with their money or getting out the credit cards to buy laptops like these ones. In my opinion this could possibly ruin smaller system builders if they do not differentiate their usp. Now consumers will have increased choice it makes it difficult for the small manufacturers. Additionally the recognisable brand name will give prospects increased confidence.

With that these laptops are also perceived to be the best laptops already, even though they really aren’t. Still however, for the little small players this could prove to be promising. On occasions the smaller companies will provide new components faster and hence supply higher configurations too. Well versed in the technology, these kinds of buyers are very clued up on what details to check for. The tech specs are important for this sort of consumer. All purchasers agree that it is a beneficial position. Ultimately it will drive prices down even further and make the premium technology even more obtainable for gamers. I write that rather hesitantly however because the laptops business is a really fast moving area. Whether technology prices will be reduced on the whole is another topic but the best laptops are normally expensive. It is hard to know what will happen now that the global companies have become involved in producing laptops for gaming.

Is Branding a Legitimate Internet Marketing Strategy

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Internet marketing is all about hard results, not generic concepts of branding. Still, there are ways to go about branding your product or service on the net without spending a fortune.

Is Branding a Legitimate Internet Marketing Strategy

Branding refers to the vague notion of creating an identity for a product, service or name with consumers. The classic example, of course, is Coca Cola. Being first on the scene, the company has been able to create such a strong name brand that most people use the word “coke” instead of soda when ordering. This is true even when they prefer Pepsi. In the world of marketing, we all bow before the marketing team that accomplished this branding. The Internet, however, is a different beast. That same marketing team would be crushed if they went after a similar strategy on the net.

The Internet is so large that branding is an expensive and difficult goal unless you are the first major presence in a niche. Sites like EBay and Amazon were the first major money players in their fields, giving them a huge advantage over subsequent competitors. Unless you are coming to a field with a lot of money and no current dominant site, your branding efforts are going to meet with failure or limited success at best. If you want to stick with it, the only cost effective and ultimately successful strategy is to pursue a width search engine optimization campaign.

Search engine optimization is simply an effort to get pages on your site ranked high in search results on the three big search engines – Google, Yahoo and MSN. To establish your brand, the best Internet marketing strategy is to identify every single phrase your prospects use to find services or products in your business area. You then build optimized pages for every single phrase and get them ranked.

This strategy has two benefits. First, it will produce free traffic to your site. If you build 200 pages and each gets 50 visitors a day, your site will receive 10,000 visitors a day. The second benefit is your brand becomes established. Regardless of what the prospect searches for, they keep seeing your site. This creates both recognition and credibility with the prospect as they tend to equate high rankings with quality. As they visit your site over and over, they will also become readily familiar with your unique selling position as presented on the site.

If you want to establish a brand, avoid wasting your money on banners and such unless you are in a niche that isn’t dominated by any single site. Instead, use the width search engine optimization tactic to establish your site and pick up free traffic.

Ukraine-Sleeping Beauty

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Ukraine… Truly a country like no other. For seventy years hidden behind the Iron Curtain this Sleeping Beauty suddenly arose with a new breath of life, throwing off the tyranny of her past oppressors and proudly proclaiming herself as the worlds newest democracy. Ukraine’s example of determination against all odds has indeed served as an inspiration to freedom seeking peoples around the world.

For the tourist, the openness and warmth of the Ukrainian people is unmistakable. The cultural diversity is refreshing, leaving your senses of life, of humanity, broadened and enlightened. Ukraine’s people are as curious about you, as you are about them. After all, it’s been in near total isolation for a very long time.

For the Traveler there has been no better time to experience first hand the impact that Soviet style communism has left on this Nation of 48 million, and at the same time witness a most profound moment in history. Michael Gorbachev likened Ukraine’s Orange Revolution as equal in importance to the fall of the Berlin Wall in the emergence of democracy in the former Soviet Union.

Of the Worlds great capital cities, Kyiv (Kiev) ranks second to none in her livability. Known in the past as the “Mother” of former USSR strongholds, Kyiv has a rich history in its importance as a vital part of Europe. With a population of nearly 3 million ‘registered’ residents, the city is actually estimated to be much larger, with an abundance of parks, theaters, beaches, and nightlife that beg for exploration in a seemingly endless trail of discoveries that continually surprise and delight.

Winter Romance on a Budget

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Winter is a wonderful time for romance. With the cold weather, the perfect stillness, and the additional time for snuggling, you can’t go wrong in the romance department.

There are countless ways to show love during the winter without running up your credit card bill. Initiate the following ideas with your sweetie, and show him that your warm heart isn’t affected by the cold weather or by your budget.

* Light some candles or start a fire in the fireplace and enjoy the day together.

* Scratch his back or rub his feet.

* Bake cookies together.

* Read a book out loud to each other. As kids we enjoyed being read to, and the appeal is still there. Just try it and you’ll see.

* Turn on the radio and slow dance to the songs you fell in love listening to. Or find new songs to rekindle your love.

* Look at old photo albums of yourselves when you were kids through your dating years. When’s the last time you’ve had a photo taken together?

* Play a board game or do a jigsaw or crossword puzzle together. There are so many new fun games as well as the old favorites. Make it a priority to spend time together.

* Have a picnic on the living room floor. Serve some wine and cheese or order take out food. Even your ordinary sandwiches will taste delicious when served with the right atmosphere.

So, although the weather outside may be frightful, romance during the winter is definitely delightful. As long as you love him so – Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
